Located in the heart of Arusha National Park, Mount Meru offers an alternative option for tourists who want to trek something other than Mount Kilimanjaro. It is also used as a preparatory climbing destination before trekking Kilimanjaro to properly get acclimatized. Mount Meru Climbing is offered throughout the year and are less crowded.
With a height of 4,562 meters, it is the fifth highest mountain in Africa and second highest in Tanzania after Kilimanjaro. Unlike Kilimanjaro where there are seven to eight trekking route, there is only one trekking route in Mount Meru called the “Momella route.” It passes through different vegetation zones and is stunning by itself. The lower reaches of the mountain are characterized by fertile slopes surrounded by savanna and a forest reserve that account for significant amount of wildlife population found in Arusha National Park.
