What Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro Taught Us About Climbing ‘Mount Entrepreneur’
Every year millions of people of all ages, sectors, and categories trek Mount Kilimanjaro. With a height of 5,895 meters, it is easily recognized as the tallest mountain in Africa. Trekking to the top takes somewhere between 7 to 10 days and the view from the top is stunning to say the least and fills a person with a sense of pride. Not only is the climb fun and enjoyable, but it is of great educational importance as well. And by education, we’re not limited to books and science, but spread out to valuable life lessons.
Here is what Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing taught every one of us at Silver sky:
Ignite Your Mission
When you’re Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, remember that you’re on a mission. A mission to climb to the top. You’ll be covering 5,895 meters and going through seven different vegetation zones along the way and encountering a mix of comforting and uneasy path. Thus to accomplish your mission, you’ll have to plan it out and create a blueprint. It may (and should) contain the route you’ll be following, duration of the climb, each day’s plan, stoppages, things to carry, and backup options. All these things will give you a better clarity on what you want to accomplish and what your overall mission.
Accept The Challenge
Once you have it mapped out, next step would be to accept what’s in front. Climbing to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro is definitely not a walk in the park, but rather a challenge. As stated above you’ll be passing through seven vegetation zones and the higher you go, the harsher the environment becomes. Moreover, there’s a mental challenge which one has to accept. It’s the opposing battle between, “Let’s Do It” and “I’m Not Prepared.” Throughout the entire tour as well there’ll be instance where the problem will more be mental rather than physical which you inevitably have to overcome to reach to the top.
Think Beyond Your Limitation
Only planning and inspiration alone won’t get you to the top. You have to think beyond what’s doable and you’re capable and get it covered. As humans, we all share some limitations — some forced on us by nature, others by genetics. Natural limitations are, for example, gravitational pull, fixed body shapes, inability to breathe in higher altitudes or underwater (without oxygen cylinders, of course). While genetic limitations are inherited from our parents which can be born with a certain disease, impediments, low tolerance of something and things to that sort. So to trek safely and successfully, you have to gauge your own limitations and act accordingly. Get that right, you’ll be at Uhuru. We’ve seen people with disability reaching to the top.
Don’t Climb Looking At The Ground
When you’re in a mission, the most common phrase you’ll come across is, “Never Look Back.” It holds true for Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro as well. The views from the top of Kilimanjaro are stunning indeed. But while climbing, you’ll be coming across steep curves and edges. The last thing you’d want to do is look at the sight down beneath, especially if you’re an acrophobic. This may frighten you for a bit of leave you unsettled. Instead keep your head high and straight and always keep your focus on the road ahead.
Who Are You Becoming?
You also have to ask yourself at some point in time, “Why are you doing what you are doing?” Is it just for leisure purposes or you wanting some professional benefits out of it? If you’re doing it for the latter, you have to do a bit more preparation and planning which, to a large part, depends upon your goals. Thus be clear on this front as well.
Be Your Cheerleader
As emotion driven beings, we need motivation to keep doing our job at steady pace. At such altitudes there will be hardly anyone giving you support and inspiration you’d need. So you’d have to be self-motivated and self-reliant. You have to scrutinize yourself and be happy with whatever progress you’ve made. Not only you’ll summon up the strength required to trek the distance, you’ll feel better whenever you’re down.
Mount Kilimanjaro climbing is a fun activity in itself. Trekking in the snowy environment aside, you’ll have an excellent birding and wildlife tour as well. Are you look for Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing Packages, contact Silver Sky today and get the best packages with exciting offers.
