The Great Wildebeest Migration – World’s Biggest Drama Played On Serengeti Plain
The Great Wildebeest Migration is rated as one of the world’s most spectacular natural events. Wildebeests as principle characters featuring in the drama with other prominent characters such as predators and scavengers and they are also known for playing their part very well on the endless plain of Serengeti. The involvement of each and every animal & nature itself play very important characters for the natural success of this drama. It’s a natural cycle and every living being in this animal kingdom is connected to each other to complete this natural cycle or natural process. Serengeti Wildebeest Migration is definitely the best example of how nature plays the role of puppeteer and animals as puppets in this big game.
Let’s describe how nature & animals are playing their role since the beginning of time:-
♦ How Wildebeests, Zebras & Other Predators Play Their Role?
It all begins in the most crucial months of July till October that comes to be known to the world as great Serengeti Wildebeest Migration. When it comes to wildebeest along with Zebras, their only objective is to migrate from the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania to the greener pastures of the Maasai Mara national reserve in Kenya.
The Serengeti Wildebeest Migration is an enormous loop that happens every year and recognised as the seven wonders of the natural world.
During the course of this three-month long journey, dangers lurk in the form of predators and scavengers who pounce upon the weakest members of the wildebeests and Zebra herds. Whenever such encounters take place there is little chance to escape the clutches of death and during the event of migration, there is no chance especially when these wildebeests are crossing Mara River because it is filled with giant and dangerous Nile Crocodiles.
♦ How The Big Five Played Their Role?
During the start of Migration In Serengeti plains, these big five members especially lion and leopard start hiding around the plains where these wildebeests and zebras gather in large numbers to kick-start the event of Great Migration.
These natural carnivores’ hunters know the route of the journey of these wildebeests and Zebras precisely.
During the journey they follow the herd silently without exposing their location for the best time to charge on them especially on the weakest members of the family who left behind due to exhaustion and have drained out.
♦ How Hyenas Play Their Role?
As far Hyenas role in the Serengeti Wildebeest Migration is concerned they always hunt in packs in order to close all the gaps and chances for its prey to escape their hold either it is a wildebeest or Zebra.
♦ How Finely Role Play The King Of Jungle “Lion”?
King of the Jungle also known as ‘The Lion’ has his own unique way to hunt these migrating animals. He always hides himself inside the huge grasses of the plains in order to camouflage himself from getting detected.
He hides and waits patiently and takes notes on each and every move of wildebeests. When the favourable time arrives, he pounces on the nearest available wildebeest that comes within its reach.
All such hunting scenes are just captivating when you are watching the Wildebeest Migration in Serengeti National Park especially by the king of the jungle himself.
♦ How Crocodiles Play Their Own Role?
Nile Crocodiles are one of the dangerous predators and you can find plenty of them in the several rivers of Africa especially the Mara River that acts as a natural border between the Serengeti National Park and Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya.
These crocodiles play their role by pouncing on the wildebeests and Zebras that are trying to crossing the river. Their grip and hold is very brutal and painful for the prey during the hunt.
Escaping that powerful grip of their jaw is next to impossible when any body part of the prey such as wildebeest or Zebra is inside the mouth of the horrifying crocodile.
♦ How Mara River Play Its Role?
Mara River is nothing but a boundary that separates Serengeti National Park from Maasai Mara National River.
Crossing this river is deadly because of several reasons. The first reason is that the water of this river is mostly neck deep and second the flow of the river is fast and doesn’t give any chance to anyone to stand while crossing the river.
The third and most powerful, deadly and brutal part that this river plays is that it is a good breeding ground for the Giant Nile Crocodiles that are known for their ferocity. This makes this river extremely dangerous thus defining its role in Migration.
♦ Finally, The Role Played By Nature.
Nature is not just a player or a character with a role but is also a director and producer wholly responsible for the whole drama to take place annually. Nature creates circumstances that lead to Great Wildebeest Migration that occurs every year. As it has been greatly said once that every living being has been created by nature with a purpose and the circumstances thrown by it defines that purpose.
Yes, Serengeti Wildebeest Migration is the biggest event that defines nature itself and it helps safari lovers to understand that just like wildebeests and Zebras, we all are controlled and connected by nature and different circumstances that comes in our way define who we really are. The great Migration actually teaches many lessons that can be implemented in our own life too. Please contact us @ silverskytravel.co.tz to know more about this great event.
